Singapore-based employers and their foreign domestic workers (FDWs) have the option to renew the employment contract without the help of an agency. Renewing a FDW’s contract ultimately boils down to renewing her work permit – it is recommended but not compulsory (by MOM standards) to establish an employment contract between the employer and the FDW to lay down the rights and obligations of both parties.
The employer receives a renewal letter from MoM 8 weeks before the helper’s Work permit expires.
The employer renews or acquires a helper’s insurance package consisting of a security bond and a medical and personal insurance.
The employer and the helper must visit the Philippine Embassy in Singapore to get an Authenticated Contract (you can just walk-in). The following documents must be submitted:
If your helper’s passport needs renewing, make an appointment with the Philippine Embassy for the passport renewal and make sure to produce an extra copy of her current work permit and passport along with a duly completed OWWA Information Sheet.
The employer renews the work permit online before it expires through the submission of certain key documents:
The renewal will be immediately processed upon submission of the above-mentioned documents and the new work permit card will be delivered within 4 working days. After submitting the renewal application, check to see if the temporary work permit asks you to return the old card. If not, keep the existing card.
Your Filipino helper is entitled to a home leave every 2 years. She will need to comply with certain immigration requirements to be allowed to re-enter Singapore. Filipino nationals are required to register with their Embassy by producing the following documents:
Once they have registered they can purchase an exit document called Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC). The helper can get this OEC online.

Once all the necessary documents have been submitted, your FDW will be given a passport payment slip that will enable her to collect her new passport within 3 working days.
You will then be able to visit the Consular Department (located on the second floor of the Indonesian Embassy) where your helper and you will have to attend a quick interview with an officer, after which a Work Agreement – distinct from the employment contract recommended by MOM – will be produced. Bring along the passport payment slip, your helper’s current work permit and your IC.
