Important 2026 Add-Ons & Notes

  • Hong Kong Insurance: Please note that the packages above do not include mandatory Employees’ Compensation Insurance in Hong Kong. HelperChoice is partnered with Dahsing Insurance’s MaidSure , a comprehensive insurance offered at 25% off through this link.

  • Statutory Compliance: All packages are updated to meet the September 2025/2026 Minimum Allowable Wage (HK$5,100) and mandatory food allowance regulations.

  • Transparent Fees: HelperChoice remains an ethical agency—we never charge placement fees to domestic workers.

2. Statutory Salary and Food Allowance

Under Hong Kong labor law, all foreign domestic helpers must be paid at least the Minimum Allowable Wage (MAW).

  • Minimum Allowable Wage (2026): HK$5,100 month. (Applies to all contracts signed on or after September 30, 2025).

  • Food Allowance: If you do not provide free food, you must pay a monthly allowance of no less than HK$1,236.

  • Market Trends: While the minimum is HK$5,100 many employers in 2026 offer HK$6,000 – HK$7,500 to attract helpers with specialized skills (newborn care, elderly support, or specific cooking abilities).

3. Mandatory Insurance and Medical Costs

The Employees’ Compensation Ordinance requires all employers to have a valid insurance policy.

  • Legal Minimum: Basic EC insurance covers work-related injuries but often lacks outpatient medical coverage.

  • Comprehensive Coverage: Because employers are responsible for all medical costs for their helper, we highly recommend a “Plus” package that includes full medical, dental, and hospitalization coverage. This protects you from unexpected, high-cost private medical bills.

4. Transportation and Airfare

  • Initial Arrival: For overseas hires, you are responsible for the flight from their home city to Hong Kong.

  • Repatriation: At the end of the contract (or if it is terminated), you are legally obligated to pay for their return flight to their home city.

  • Daily Errands: Any work-related transport (e.g., wet market trips) must be reimbursed.
