How to Create a Strong Domestic Helper Profile

Updated 26 January 2026

A good profile gets you hired (also saves time and money!)

Your potential employer does not know you. And there are a lot of domestic helpers out there looking for a job. How will employers know who to pick and hire? The first moment your name appears in front of possible hirers is when they look at your profile. With that said, your profile is critical to your chance of being hired.

And not just that. By being specific and honest with your profile, you can let hirers have an accurate and comprehensive evaluation of you – and thereby avoid misunderstandings and nuisances that may arise after you begin working.

If your profile is unclear and misleading, your employer may fire you as they find your ability is less than what your profile says or because they think you are dishonest. If you are terminated, you will have to go back to your home country and start the employment process all over again. This will cost both you and your employer unnecessary time and money. With HelperChoice, you are able to create your own profile in a few steps for free! Learn how to by watching this tutorial video.

Nice photo, nice impression

As in real life, you get an impression of someone when you first see their faces. It is also true in the domestic helper hiring process. Employers are less likely to choose a profile without a profile picture – simply because a dummy picture does not convey a real person. It may seem that your profile is incomplete or even fake. There is no way to get a sense of who you are.

By putting a picture of yourself, your profile will instantly appear to be legitimate. Employers will then likely to consider your profile as they believe that you are a real person looking for a job, just like everybody else. A picture will also let potential employers to have an impression on you, and more importantly, help them remember you – as people do in reality when they meet new faces.

If you already have a profile picture, then you are in the right direction. The next question is: is your profile picture presentable?

It would be ideal to consider things like lighting and composition. You want your face to be well-lit, clearly visible, and at least covering the 1/4 of the headshot. The clothes you wear also matters. You should wear something decent for your headshot.

Facial expression is perhaps the most critical aspect. Put on a smile to look approachable, cheerful and friendly. You may also use your passport photo as your profile picture if you feel that it is suitable.

Take your time with your title

Title of your profile – you can say your level of expertise (i.e. experienced/newbie), nationality, good traits, any extra or special backgrounds like nursing graduate, caregiver skills or teaching background, or mention how many years of experience you have. See examples below:

  • Experienced Filipina Helper with a Teaching background
  • A Patient and kind Filipina Helper with Caregiving skills
  • A Nursing graduate available to work as a Helper
  • A loving Filipina helper with 10 years experience
  • A nice Indonesian helper with 10 years experience available ASAP
  • An Indonesian helper who has just finished a contract, ready for a new one
  • An Indonesian nanny who can handle kids and elderly

Be specific about your experience

In your self-introduction, do talk about your experience in domestic work as it will very likely to give you a higher chance of getting employed. By being specific about your experience, your potential employer is able to know if you are the right fit. For example, if you have to take care of a cat in your previous employment, then your profile will be more appealing to employers with a pet.

You may also want to point out the nationality or culture of your previous employer, e.g. ‘I worked for a local Chinese family for 3 years’, as some hirer may want a domestic helper who is familiar with theirs. Stating the gender and the number of kids you were taking care of is beneficial as well, not to mention the cuisine that you can cook and special skills you have.

State your strengths to stand out (but don’t bluff!)

You may also want to highlight the things you are confident in doing. For example, you are good at taking care of dogs, or new-borns, or good at cooking Italian food, etc. Emphasising your speciality also helps your potential employer identify whether you can satisfy their needs.

Noted that you should not lie about your strengths because your employer is very likely to know once you start working. If this is the case, the employer may want to break the contract and start the termination process. If you are not sure what your strengths are, you may refer to the reference letters your previous employers gave you, or if possible, contact them directly to ask.

Beware of tone and proofread

Your tone in your writing also affects how people think of you. Remember to be polite and cheerful in your profile to leave a good impression on others. Useful expressions include ‘I am looking forward to meeting you/to having an interview with you!’ or ‘Feel free to contact me and we can have a chat!’

Proofreading your writing is essential as well as your writing shows your language proficiency and, perhaps to some people, your attentiveness to details. Try to remove any grammatical and spelling mistake. Nevertheless, your potential employer would know about your language speaking ability, which is more relevant for domestic work, during the interview.

Writing sample

Here is an example that you can take inspiration from:

“Hello, my name is Mae and I am from the Philippines. I have been working in Hong Kong for a British family for 2 years, I take care of 2 kids (a 5-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl) and 1 cat. I am good at cooking Western food and I have a first aid training certification.

My previous experiences include working for a Chinese family in Singapore from 2014 to 2016. I am looking forward to meeting your family!”
