These are the stories they shared in the survey:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My children always make sure to send loving thoughts, which makes me proud as a mother. They make me feel special as a foreign domestic helper (FDH) who works hard for them, even though we are far apart. But both of us always make sure that our hearts and minds are present in our daily lives.&#8221; &#8211; Jenny*<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My most memorable experience is when I had the chance to come back home and attend my children&#8217;s college ceremony in May, which we all considered as a Mother&#8217;s Day gift to me as a mom. I was so happy to see my children appreciate my hard work and sacrifices as a foreign migrant domestic helper. That was the best thing in my whole life that I could celebrate two important events at the same time &#8211; Mother&#8217;s Day and my children&#8217;s graduation! &#8221; &#8211; Jill*<\/p>\n<p>One migrant domestic worker recalled her memories with her children back in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Actually, I don&#8217;t have a special or memorable experience on this day, but I want to share with you something that happened when we were together in my motherland. We were very poor and didn&#8217;t have enough money to buy food. One day, I only had enough money to buy half a loaf of bread, which was enough only for my children. So, I gave them the bread with some leftover curry and told them that I would go to the kitchen to make something for myself because I wanted to fill their tummies. Later, my child came to me and asked what I was going to eat. I told him that I had food, but he couldn&#8217;t find any in the kitchen. Then, he talked with his sister and they kept a piece of bread and gave it to me, saying, &#8216;Mom, we are so full. You eat this.&#8217; At that moment, my eyes welled up with tears and I hugged my children tightly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>When asked how to celebrate Mother\u2019s Day this year, most migrant domestic workers responded that they will spend time with other helpers since they are far from home. One domestic worker, Jane* never celebrated this special occasion with her child since she has been out of her country for the employment contract in Hong Kong since 2012.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Another migrant domestic helper Joyce* wrote:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo celebration. It&#8217;s just like an ordinary day, but I am happy if I see my children happy and healthy. Their simple hug and kiss is enough for me to solve all my problems, stress, and worries at work. All of my negative feelings are gone if I know they are doing fine and they are happy.
