Your domestic helper will need to submit these documents\u00a0<strong>in person<\/strong>, within 4 weeks of the expiry date of their contract, at the Department\u2019s dedicated Foreign Domestic Helper section. Your domestic helper will need to submit the following documents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completed the ID998A form, with a photo affixed<\/li>\n<li>Completed ID998B form<\/li>\n<li>One original copy of the new standard employment contract<\/li>\n<li>Your domestic helper\u2019s passport, together with a photocopy of the pages that show their personal particulars, photo, passport expiration date, most recent visa label, and most recent landing slip or extension of stay label<\/li>\n<li>A photocopy of your domestic helper\u2019s Hong Kong ID card<\/li>\n<li>A photocopy of your Hong Kong ID card, as well as a photocopy of the relevant passport pages if you are a non-permanent resident<\/li>\n<li>A photocopy of a document showing proof that you earn at least $15,000 per month or have assets that allow you to support your domestic helper throughout the contract period<\/li>\n<li>A photocopy of a document showing proof of your residential address<\/li>\n<li>A release letter from your domestic helper\u2019s current employer that indicates their final workday<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On submission of all the necessary documents, your domestic helper will be issued with a white card with an application number \u2013 you can quote this reference number if you query the status of the application.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_3_After_submitting_application\"><\/span>Step 3. Have the contract notarized at Consulate<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Either you or your domestic helper is required to visit the <strong>Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO)<\/strong> (18\/F, Mass Mutual Building, 33 Lockhart Road, Wanchai) to apply for contract notarization, provided that your domestic helper\u2019s current contract expires within a month.<\/p>\n<p>You will need to provide the following documents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Completed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/polohk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/TRANSFER-OWWA-Form.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OFW Information Sheet<\/a>\u00a0provided by POLO<\/li>\n<li>Original copies of all 4 newly signed employment contract<\/li>\n<li>The original copy of the domestic helper\u2019s current contract<\/li>\n<li>A photocopy of the domestic helper\u2019s passport<\/li>\n<li>A photocopy of the domestic helper\u2019s new working visa<\/li>\n<li>A photocopy of the domestic helper\u2019s Hong Kong ID card<\/li>\n<li>A photocopy of your Hong Kong ID card<\/li>\n<li>A copy of the domestic helper\u2019s Immigration appointment letter (if they were dismissed for one of the reasons that qualifies them for \u2018finished contract\u2019 status)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Notarisation costs <strong>HK$506<\/strong> in total \u2013 consisting of the mandatory <strong>Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)<\/strong> membership, a verification fee\u00a0 (HK$320 as of March 01, 2026), and an authentication fee payable to the Philippine Consulate General on collection.<\/p>\n<p>It usually takes 2 working days for contracts to be notarized. Make sure that you keep the receipt issued by POLO as you will need to present this to the Philippine Consulate General when fetching the approved contract.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Domestic_helper_visa_processing_time\"><\/span>Domestic helper visa processing time<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Generally speaking, 90% of the employment visa applications are processed <strong>within 6 weeks<\/strong>. Sometimes the application can even be finished within a month depending on the period and the number of applications that the Immigration Department has received at the same time. Remember, the domestic helper cannot start working for you until she obtains a new working visa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If your hired domestic helper is currently in Hong Kong, the visa application can take as little time as 14 to 28 days, but if she is in her home country it may take up to 2 months for immigration to process the visa.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In some cases, the application can be delayed. For example, if the contract is not filled out properly or if the Immigration officers have further questions to ask. In this case, it can take up to a few months before the visa application is processed.<\/p>\n<p>For domestic workers who are renewing their contract with the same employer, they should submit their visa application <strong>within 8 weeks prior to the expiry of their limit of stay.<\/strong> The visa will usually be issued on the same day as the application. For domestic workers who are changing employers, they should submit the application <strong>within 4 weeks prior to the expiry of the contract.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The queues at the Immigration Department can be rather long in the peak employment visa application period, usually in the summer. According to the suggestions made by the Immigration Department, you as an employer should either send your worker early or submit applications for contract renewal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.hk\/en\/residents\/immigration\/nonpermanent\/applyextensionstay\/fdh.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Special_note\"><\/span>Special note<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In response to the 2019 coronavirus disease epidemic, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has gazetted specifications under the Prevention and Control of Diseases (Regulation of Cross-Border Transport and Arrivals) Regulations (Chapter 599H of the Laws of Hong Kong). Relevant persons arriving in Hong Kong (including foreign domestic helpers) in specified areas impose conditions. The employers need to sign a document called Undertaking of the Employer. The statement protects the basic rights of foreign domestic helpers and public health by ensuring the domestic helper accepts the quarantine.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter of undertaking, the employer must promise to be responsible for paying the accommodation fee, food allowance, and COVID-19 nucleic acid fees for the mandatory 14-day quarantine of foreign domestic helpers upon arrival in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Do_I_need_to_pay_for_the_salary_if_my_employee_is_on_quarantine\"><\/span>Do I need to pay for the salary if my employee is on quarantine?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>For the first hire, domestic helper since the employment contract has not yet taken effect and the employee cannot attend work due to his\/her reason. The employer doesn&#8217;t need to pay for the salary of a domestic helper during the quarantine.<\/p>\n<p>For employees who have signed the Standard Employment Contract (SEC), accumulated 14 days of paid sick leave can be taken for a paid leave, the employer should pay salary. On the contrary, employees with less than 14 days of paid sick leave can only be treated as unpaid sick leave or in advance of the annual leave.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Domestic_helper_visa_validity_and_period_of_stay\"><\/span>Domestic helper visa validity and period of stay<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the case of hiring a first-timer, upon arrival in Hong Kong, your domestic worker will have to clear immigration and she will receive a landing slip stating how long she is allowed to stay in Hong Kong. If the helper is working for a new employer,\u00a0<strong>the limit of stay will be 2 years<\/strong>, unless her employment visa was issued with a one-year extension period. In this case, the limit of stay is specified on the landing slip and has to be followed.<\/p>\n<p>If you are hiring a new helper, do check her employment visa and landing slip for accurate information on her condition of stay. Generally speaking, it&#8217;s good to keep a copy of the landing slip for your reference.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"If_your_domestic_helpers_passport_expires\"><\/span>If your domestic helper\u2019s passport expires<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Also, note that your hired foreign helper needs to apply for a new visa label in case her passport expires before the expiry of her current visa. She will have to file another\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.immd.gov.hk\/eng\/forms\/forms\/id91.html\">application for extension of stay<\/a>\u00a0with Immigration after she has received her new passport so that Immigration can issue a new visa to her.<\/p>\n<p>Normally, the Hong Kong government has already taken this into consideration during the visa application of her current visa, and her working visa should expire 30 days before the expiry of her passport.
