It requires proper planning, clear communication, and compliance with <strong data-start=\"1424\" data-end=\"1448\">domestic worker visa<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1453\" data-end=\"1482\">holiday visa requirements<\/strong>, which vary depending on the destination country and the worker\u2019s nationality.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1563\" data-end=\"1671\">This guide explains what employers need to know before travelling with their domestic worker from Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1678\" data-end=\"1732\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_It_Allowed_to_Take_a_Domestic_Worker_on_Holiday\"><\/span><strong>Is It Allowed to Take a Domestic Worker on Holiday?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1734\" data-end=\"1865\">Yes. It does <strong data-start=\"2424\" data-end=\"2431\">not<\/strong> automatically grant the right to enter other countries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2489\" data-end=\"2546\">For travel outside Hong Kong, most domestic workers need:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2547\" data-end=\"2715\">\n<li data-start=\"2547\" data-end=\"2617\">\n<p data-start=\"2549\" data-end=\"2617\">A <strong data-start=\"2551\" data-end=\"2587\">short-term visit or holiday visa<\/strong> for the destination country<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2618\" data-end=\"2673\">\n<p data-start=\"2620\" data-end=\"2673\">A valid passport with sufficient remaining validity<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2674\" data-end=\"2715\">\n<p data-start=\"2676\" data-end=\"2715\">Proof of employment and return travel<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2717\" data-end=\"2836\">Each country sets its own <strong data-start=\"2743\" data-end=\"2772\">holiday visa requirements<\/strong>, and these depend heavily on the domestic worker\u2019s nationality. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In many South-east Asian countries, your domestic helper is allowed to join you on a short stay tourist. But in many western countries, your domestic helper will need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helperchoice.com\/c\/taking-domestic-helper-holidays-guide-visa-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">apply for a special visa<\/a>. If you want to avoid tourist issues ruining your holiday, <\/span><b>contacting the embassy will be the best way<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but we have done some of the legwork for you for some popular holiday destinations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helperchoice.com\/c\/all-you-need-to-know-about-helpers-in-hong-kong\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">foreign domestic helpers<\/a>\u00a0are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> allowed to work while on holiday in a foreign country unless that employment follows local employment laws, including minimum wage, insurance, visa\/immigration, etc. In addition, you must get your domestic helper&#8217;s consent if you require her to perform domestic duties during the trip (given that the visa she has for the destination allows her to work).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Europe\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Europe<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Schengen_area\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schengen area<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Philippine or Indonesian nationals are required to apply for a Schengen visa. The Schengen area covers 26 countries. If you intend to visit several under the Schengen area and the stays will be of equal length, the domestic helper must apply for a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/home-affairs\/what-we-do\/policies\/borders-and-visas\/visa-policy\/how_to_apply_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schengen visa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the Consulate of the country whose external borders you will cross first when entering the Schengen area i.e. your first destination. Note that some countries such as France have additional rules and requirements for issuing Schengen visas. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"France\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">France<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can apply for a French visa for your domestic helper via<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/france-visas.gouv.fr\/en_US\/web\/france-visas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the official visa website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for France. The employer has to initiate the application up to three months before you\u2019re set to travel. An application form needs to be filled out and sent to the local labour department and only after receiving a stamped and signed form, can the domestic helper apply for her visa. The process will take around one month, but may be longer in the months prior to the summer holiday so make sure your domestic helper secures a time slot early.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_United_Kingdom\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The United Kingdom<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking your domestic helper to the UK is possible if you apply for a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/domestic-workers-in-a-private-household-visa\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Domestic Workers in a Private Household visa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and will cost \u00a3516. The application needs to be made up to three months before departure and you should get a decision on the visa within 3 weeks. The application needs to be made online, but as part of the process, the domestic helper needs to go to the visa application centre. Your domestic helper will need to have worked for you for at least a year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_United_States\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The United States<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applying for a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ustraveldocs.com\/hk\/hk-niv-typedomesticemployee.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Domestic Employee Visa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the US is tough as immigration can decide to deny the visa if they suspect your domestic worker could attempt to disappear during the trip. Pay attention that this visa does <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> allow work in Australia. The Australian process is quite rigid so make sure that you state everything clearly on the form to avoid breaching conditions of stay. Also, be ready to prove that your domestic helper is an integral part of your family and that her help is absolutely necessary during your trip.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"China\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">China<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Domestic helpers can apply for a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmcoprc.gov.hk\/eng\/fwxx\/wgrqz\/t1202489.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tourist visa to China<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The employer will need to provide a guarantee letter containing the purpose of domestic helper\u2019s visit, entry and departure dates. You will also need to guarantee that the domestic helper will enter and exit Mainland China together with you. Regulations for the PRC have been changing over the past years, and you may want to check with the PRC embassy or office for the latest regulations. Pay attention that it&#8217;s forbidden to ask your domestic helper to work for you in China with this tourist visa.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Singapore\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Singapore<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flying to Singapore for a long weekend on a whim? Don\u2019t worry, passport holders from the Philippines and Indonesia are allowed to stay for 30 days without needing to apply for a visa.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Thailand\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thailand<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Domestic helpers from Indonesia and the Philippines can enter Thailand for up to 30 days <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thaiembassy.com\/thailand\/changes-visa-exempt.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">without a visa<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">visa-free short visit permit<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d upon arrival.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"4039\" data-end=\"4081\"><span
